Rachel Mukai, AMFT (She/Her)

Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (#148345)

Rachel Mukai is a queer, cisgender Associate Marriage and Family Therapist at TheraQ, providing affirming, trauma-informed therapy to teens, adults, couples, and families across California. She works with LGBTQIA+ clients, individuals healing from religious trauma, and people in a wide range of relationship structures, including ethically non-monogamous, open, and polyamorous relationships. Rachel also supports families navigating parent-child and multigenerational dynamics.

Rachel earned her Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of La Verne and brings experience from both community mental health and LGBTQ+ community-based settings. Her background includes working with adults who have experienced intimate partner violence and elder abuse, as well as children impacted by trauma. She has training through working at a local LGBTQ+ Resource Center, providing care to clients across the queer spectrum, including gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, non-binary, trans, and questioning individuals.

Her clinical approach is grounded in LGBTQ+ Affirmative CBT and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, and informed by humanistic, feminist, and attachment-based frameworks. Rachel is especially attentive to the ways systems, culture, faith, and relational histories shape identity and emotional wellbeing. She does not view clients as needing to be fixed, but rather supported in reconnecting with their values, needs, and sense of self.

Clients often describe Rachel as calm, authentic, and easy to talk to. She creates a warm, collaborative therapy space where clients can move at their own pace and feel genuinely heard. Rachel is supervised by Dr. Katie Moore, PsyD (PSY# 32941).
